FTP

Getting Started

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows the transfer of files between two computers, generally connected via the Internet. When using FTP, you use a program, called a 'client' to connect to the computer you're transferring your files to, the 'server'.

Graphic Technology Inc (GTI) maintains its own FTP server allowing clients the ability to reliably transfer their files for processing.

All clients must call us at 718-706-7600 to obtain an FTP username and password.

Can't I just email my files to you?
Email tends to be unreliable when sending large attachments. Many services (like AOL) and corporations prohibit and reject attachments beyond a certain threshold. Because of this we recommend using our FTP to transfer ALL your files to us.

Can't I send you a missing font via email?
We will accept email attachments for corrections such as missing fonts or graphics as long as the total attachment size does not exceed 2MB. When emailing corrections, please include a message that clearly tells us who the file is from.

All files should be compressed using WinZip, Stuffit or PKZip. This reduces the transfer time and enables multiple files to be sent within one compressed file.

Lastly, always notify us when sending files to us so we can confirm their receipt.

Recommended FTP Client Software

For the Macintosh, we recommend Fetch which is by far the most popular Mac FTP client. At one time Fetch was shareware (freely distributed and paid for if you kept and used it) but now carries a license fee of $25. The latest version runs on Mac OS 8, 9 & X. Cyberduck is another FTP client for the Mac OS X only. And is widely used popular donation ware. NOTE: Mac users with the latest Mac OS X (Leopard) installed. Our standard FTP server currently is not supporting this method. Please use our Easy File Transfer from the browser.

For the PC, we recommend WS_FTP Pro which is considered one of (if not the) most popular FTP clients for the PC. It carries a $39.95 license fee.The latest version does not run on Windows 95.
[Download a trial of WS_FTP Pro]

Since FTP is a standard protocol, just about any FTP client software will work, however, Fetch and WS_FTP Pro remain our recommendations. You can search for other FTP client software at VersionTracker and at C|Net's Download.com.
